Insertion- cartilage of fifth, sixth and seventh ribs and xiphoid process
Movement - flex teh vertebral column
Nerve - branches of nercostals

Insertion- anterior part of the iliac crest, abdominal aponeurosis to linea alba
Movement - unilaterally: laterally flex vertebral column to the same side , rotate vertebral column to the opposite side. Bilaterally: flex the vertebral column compreess abdominal contents
Nerve - branches of intercostals

nsertion- internal surface of lower three ribs, abdominal aponeurosis to linea alba
Movement - unilaterally: laterally flex vertebral column to the same side rotate vertebral column to the same side. Bilaterallly: flex the vertebral column compress abdominal contents

Origin- commone tendon (thoracolumbar aponeurosis) that attaches to the posterior surface of sacrum, iliac crest, spinous processes of teh lumbar and last two thoracic vertebrae
Insertion- various attachments at the posterior ribs, spinous and transverse processes of thoracic and cervical vertebrae, and mastoid process of temporal bone
Movement - unilaterally: laterally flex vertebral column to the same side Bilaterally: extend teh vertebral column
Nerve - dorsal primary divisions of spinal nerves



Deep - Branches of the Erector spinae muscles pg 180
Origin
- spinous processes of the upper lumbar and lower thoracic vertebrae (thoracis). ligamentum nuchae, spinous process of c-7 (cervicis)
Insertion- Spinous processes of upper thoracic (thoracis), Spinous processes of cervicals, except c - 1 (cervicis)
Movement - unilaterally: laterally flex vertebral column to the same side, Bilaterally: extend the vertebral column
Nerve - dorsal primary divisions of spinal nerves
