Pin Pointing pain Chest
Anterior muscles
Scalene pg 253
Origin - transverse processes of third through sixth cervical vertebrae (anterior tubercles)
Insertion - first rib
Movement - unilaterally: with the ribs fixed, laterally flex the head and neck to the same side, Rotate head and neck to the opposite side Bilaterally: elevate the ribs during inhalation, flex the head and neck
Nerve - cervical and brachial plexuses
Sternocleidomastoid pg 250
Origin- sternal head:top of manubrium, clavicular head: medial one-third of the clavicle
Insertion- mastoid process of temporal bone and the lateral portion of superior nuchal line of occiput
Movement - unilaterally: laterally flex the head and neck to the same side rotate the head and neck to the opposite side, Bilaterally: flex the neck, assist in inhalation elevation of the rib cage)
Nerve - spinal accessory
Subclavius pg 102
Origin- first rib and ccartilage
Insertion - inferior, lateral aspect of the clavicle
Movement - draw clavicle inferior and anterior elevate first rib (to assist in inhalation) stabilize the sternoclavicular joint
Nerve - subclavian

Pectoralis Major pg 97
Origin- medial half of clavicle, sternum and cartilage of first through sixth ribs
Insertion - crest of greater tubercle of humerus
Movement - adduct the shoulder, medially rotate the shoulder, assist in elevation the thorax in forced inhalation (if arm is fixed)
Joint - glenohumeral
Nerve - medial and lateral pectoral

Pectoralis Minor pg 100
Origin - third, fourth and fifth ribs
Insertion- coracoid process of the scapula
Movement - depress the scapula, abduct the scapula, tilt the scapula anterioly
Joint - scapulothoracic
Nerve - medial pectoral

Intracostals pg 221
Origin - inferior border of the rib above
Insertion - superior border of the rib below
Movement - external intracostals assist with inhalation by drawing the ribs Superior, increasing the space of the thoracic cavity
Internal intracostals assist with exhalation by drawing the ribs inferior, decreasing the space of the thoracic cavity
Nerve - intercostal

Rectus abdominis pg 215
Origin- pubic crest, pubic symphysis
Insertion- cartilage of fifth, sixth and seventh ribs and xiphoid process
Movement - flex the vertebral column
Nerve - branches of intercostals

Diaphram pg 219
Origin- costal attachment: inner surface of lower six ribs
Lumbar attachment: Upper two or three lumbar vertebrae
Sternal attachment: inner part of xiphoid process
Insertion - central tendon
Movement - draw down the central tendon of the diaphragm, increase the volume of the thoracic cavity during inhalation
Nerve - phrenic
Posterior muscle

Sternalis pg 203
Origin– spinous processes of the upper lumbar and lower thoracic vertebrae (thoracis) Ligamentum nachae, spinous process of C-7 (cervicis)
Insertion – spinous processes of upper thoracic (thoracis) Spinous processes of cervical, except C-1 (cervicis)
